Fifth grade is exploring the art of printmaking. Each student created a unique styrofoam printing plate and learned how to create individualized marker prints. To do a similar project at home, styrofoam from plates and trays can also be used!
I've added 2 websites to my list of art-friendly links! Both of the websites below are free to use and are excellent resources for exploring radial symmetry! You can save and print your designs OR use them to inspire a new project.
Enjoy, Miss Beatrice http://weavesilk.com/ Create colorful designs with symmetry. Select different options to explore radial symmetry or bilateral symmetry. Make a Flake Create a virtual paper cut snowflake! 3rd Grade is learning how to weave! During this project, we will also briefly study the history of weaving, how to create a loom, and how to warp a loom.
The color wheel is an important tool for artists. It helps us organize colors into groups and gives us information about mixing new hues. Beginning in first grade, students learn how to identify the primary colors, mix the secondary colors, and arrange them in color order on the color wheel.
To help us with the process, we read Mouse Paint by Ellen Stoll Walsh as we mixed colors to complete our own wheels. If you have made any artwork about treats, you might like to enter your artwork into this show! Please check with a parent or grown-up for help in submitting your artwork!
The deadline is January 15. http://www.seen-and-heard.org/submit-works/ It's clay week in the art room! 2nd grade will review slipping and scoring (scratch-scratch-slip-attach!) to build clay snowmen, 3rd grade will create clay penguin sculptures, 4th grade will investigate the difference between functional pottery and sculpture while creating coil pots, and 5th grade will build upon previous clay skills to create clay cupcake sculptures.
