1st Grade Art
Grading
Art education grades are standards-based and connected to the National Core Arts Standards . Your child will use a variety of art materials to create an art portfolio and many art projects.
Artwork
Art portfolios are sent home at the end of each school year. All projects are posted on Artsonia as completed!
Curriculum
First grade students create a variety of lines and patterns, identify and distinguish primary colors from others, describe the color mixing process, use tempera to paint and mix, demonstrate ability in painting with liquid watercolor, understand the concept of symmetry in a work of art, and demonstrate ability in using mixed media to create an artwork. Students will also begin to recognize and organize color into different groups, such as warm, cool, primary, and secondary colors.
The following National Core Arts Standards have been identified as priority areas for the 1st Grade art curriculum:
