5th Grade Art
Grading
Art education grades are standards-based and connected to the National Core Arts Standards . Your child will use a variety of art materials to create an art portfolio and many art projects.
Artwork
Art portfolios are sent home at the end of each school year. All projects are posted on Artsonia as completed!
Curriculum
5th grade students will: draw and shade a variety of values with pencil only, draw and shade realistic 3-dimensional forms, recognize Op Art, use lines and shapes to create an Op Art Illusion, and understand how and when to apply shading. Students will also practice creating with clay twice each year.
Students will enjoy opportunities to explore drawing in their own sketchbooks and experimenting with art materials.
The following National Core Arts Standards were identified as priority standards for the 5th Grade art curriculum:
Creating VA:Cr2.1.5a
Experiment and develop skills in multiple art-making techniques and approaches through practice.
Creating VA:Cr2.2.5a
Demonstrate quality craftsmanship through care for and use of materials, tools, and equipment.
Creating VA:Cr3.1.5a
Create artist statements using art vocabulary to describe personal choices in artmaking.
