Grading
Art education grades are standards-based and connected to the National Core Arts Standards . Your student will use a variety of art materials to create an art portfolio and many art projects.
Artwork
Art portfolios are sent home at the end of each school year. All projects are posted on Artsonia as completed!
Curriculum
During 2nd grade, students will create self portraits, create a directed line drawing, identify primary colors to knowingly mix new colors, demonstrate ability in painting with tempera paint, describe the word overlap and create overlapping shapes in an artwork, analyze works of art, create a unique and abstract works of art employing 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional elements, and think critically to develop concepts for their artwork.
The following National Core Arts Standards were identified as priority standards for the 2nd Grade art curriculum:

Experiment with various materials and tools to explore personal interests in a work of art or design.

Demonstrate safe procedures for using and cleaning art tools, equipment, and studio spaces.

Use learned art vocabulary to express preferences about artwork.
